Automatic Gearbox Repair

Automatic / Tiptronic

Automatics. We fix ’em.

Believe it or not, the most common faults on automatics are steering, fuel problems, suspension and air-con, but gearboxes and automatic clutches are up there too and we’re not afraid of ’em!

Common problems with automatic gearboxes can include slipping gears, delayed or rough shifting, and fluid leaks. Slipping gears may cause a loss of power or a high-pitched whining noise, while delayed or rough shifting can result in jerky movements or difficulty in changing gears smoothly. Fluid leaks may be indicated by red or brown spots under the vehicle or a burning smell. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is important to bring your vehicle to Branston Filling Station for a thorough diagnosis and prompt repair.

Types of automatic gearbox

The most common types of automatic gearboxes found in the UK (not specifically from UK manufacturers), include traditional torque converter automatics, dual-clutch transmissions, and continuously variable transmissions (CVTs). CVTs use fluid coupling to transfer power between the engine and transmission, while dual-clutch transmissions use two separate clutches for seamless gear changes. CVTs, on the other hand, offer infinite gear ratios for improved fuel efficiency. For the most part, all you need to know is – we can fix them! But you knew, that, right?
